⚡️screw being "less expert"

Hi Reader,

Years ago, when I first started my business, a marketing mansplainer well-intentioned businessman said,

"I wouldn't use Dr. Michelle Mazur if I were you. You're going to intimidate people."

You know what I felt? SHAME.

Something that I worked so hard for and that only 1% of people in the US achieve isn't a benefit - but a liability.

Something to hide. Something to run away from.

I think because we receive the message that expertise isn't valued in society - we experts try to hide it - by denying the very thing our clients would hire us for.

So when I hear:

"Don't be an expert. Be an explorer."
"Don't be smart. Be curious."
"Don't be an expert. Be a human."

(Why, oh why, are these always said by people who claim to help experts?)

You know what I say…SCREW 'EM!

Your Expertise is Your Superpower

Guess what? Experts ARE explorers. You ARE insatiably curious.

And (surprise!) You are 100% human.

What's more human than being so interested in —dare I say obsessed with—a topic that you dedicate yourself to it? NOTHING.

It's time to own your expertise.

All those messages telling you not to be proud of going through the gauntlet to earn your expertise? IGNORE THEM.

Experts like you bring a whole host of untapped strengths to marketing:

  • Insatiable curiosity & a drive to learn more
  • Willingness to experiment & change course
  • Humility to know you don't have ALL the answers, but the determination to find them

These aren't just what make you excellent at what you do—they're the very qualities that can make you GREAT at marketing.

That obsession with your area of expertise? Apply it to becoming just as obsessed with your potential clients and how to talk to them.

That determination to figure things out? Use it to discover what actually works for marketing your business (and ditch what doesn't).

Want to know how? Listen to this week's pod.

Your expertise isn't a liability. It's your greatest asset when marketing your business.

Anyone who tells you otherwise...send 'em my way, and I'll set them straight.

Yours in rebellion,
Michelle

P.S. Next month, I'm reopening private tours for The Expert Up Club.

The Club is a place where expertise is celebrated, and you'll do LESS marketing and see better results (e.g. more demand for your offers and to share your expertise). Get on the interest list to join us in Q2.

People stopped booking consults. Your once-full wait list looks like a ghost town. Your first instinct? Blame the offer. There must be something wrong with it! "I need to revamp this thing or add Voxer support" or worse, "Time to create something brand new!" Stop right there. If you've sold your offer to at least 5...

Read in Browser | Word Count: 432 | Time to Read: 1.49 minutes Hi Reader, I've been saying this a lot lately to members of The Expert Up Club, and maybe you need to hear it too... Marketing can never capture all that you are capable of. (And frankly, that's not marketing's job.) Marketing's one job is to open a door, make an invitation, and entice people to take one step further in understanding how you can help them. ****** Let me tell you about my friend and client, Jeff Felton. When I...

You do all this work to get the word out about your business, and grow your audience. Then, once you FINALLY have someone's attention...they're not ready to hire you. And you know what? That's absolutely normal! ***** If you've been following along, you know we've been breaking down the GEO framework – the three jobs...
