⚡️when your marketing STOPS working....

Hi Reader,

There are moments in our businesses when we feel like we’ve finally figured it out (and if you’re not there yet…don’t worry; it will happen).

New people hop on your list daily. Consultation calls feel like they are booking themselves. Website visitors are taking action and moving closer to working with you.

And then... it just stopped.

The flood of people saying yes slows to a trickle. The same tactics that once brought in clients now barely make a ripple. Your content still gets views, but no one's taking the next step.

What the hell happened?

When this slowdown strikes, it's tempting to blame your marketing tactics. "Maybe I need to post more? Try TikTok? Start a podcast?"

Let me put a bug in your ear about that.

It's not your marketing that's failing you. It's that your messaging needs to evolve.

******

We're living in uncertain times, and when uncertainty reigns, how we talk to our people has to change.

Your people change and evolve. What mattered to them 3 years ago or even a year ago is different now

Your market is maturing and becoming more savvy. They're being more selective and decisive in their buying decisions.

They want to feel like you're talking specifically and only to them—not to some generic "ideal client."

Marketing's only job is to amplify your message. That's it.

So when your marketing stops working, the problem usually isn't the channels or tactics—it's that your message isn't resonating anymore.

******
I've lived this myself. When I started doing messaging work in 2018, my message was all about aspiration:

  • It would get you a book deal
  • Help you speak on the TEDx stage
  • Give you more recognition and respect
  • Basically, help you realize your full potential

But guess what? That message stopped working.

Because today, my people are tired. They don't want fame—they want a sustainable business. Or as my friend and Expert Up Club member Maggie Patterson says, "a boring business."

They want enough clients to pay themselves well. They want to do less because the world feels on fire. They don't give a crap about those aspirational goals anymore.

******

Before you add another marketing tactic, ask yourself these questions:

  • When did you last update your message to reflect what your clients are worried about TODAY?
  • Are you still talking about the same problems and goals from 2+ years ago?
  • Has your client's priorities shifted since you created your message?
  • Does your message still spark the same emotional response it once did?

If you paused on any of these, your message is due for an update.

If your message needs a refresh, the Expert Up Club is where we make it happen. Our live messaging sprints kick off in April, where I'll personally guide you through creating a message that resonates in today's landscape.

Get on the interest list here, if you're ready to stop blaming your marketing and refresh your message.

Yours in rebellion,
Michelle

P.S. Your expertise hasn't changed, but how your clients need to hear about it has. Let's fix that.
