Hey Reader, One week ago, I launched Hot Message Summer — a standalone version of the messaging sprints we run inside the Expert Up Club. 45 people on the waitlist. I did the math: if 10% joined, I'd open it to the full list and fill the rest. One person joined. Ooof. Here's why I ran the experiment in the first place. For a long time, I'd been carrying this question around: what if I pulled the messaging sprints out of the Club and sold them on their own? A try-before-you-buy. A low-risk way to experience how I work, get your messaging done, and meet the members. It sounded so good in my head that I built the whole thing. And I did not half-ass it. I obsessed over the look and feel of the sales page. Every line of every email. The waitlist page. Which bonuses to offer. (Perfectionist? Me? No idea what you're talking about.) And then the market answered: no thanks. But all was not lost. Because of Hot Message Summer, a woman booked a private tour of the Club. Not the sprint ~ the Club. I’m pretty sure she’s in. She didn't want the piece. She wanted the whole thing ~ the messaging and the implementation and the marketing and building the muscle of making asks. Am I disappointed? Yes. The sprints are fucking brilliant. But one of the core values of the Expert Up Club is the courage to try — and I don't get to teach that value if I only try things that work. Here's what the experiment brought me: an answer. That question had been renting space in my head for over a year. Now it's not. It smarts, but I know exactly where to focus. And the part I'm proud of? I acted. I gave it my full-ass try, and it didn't work, and that's okay. I'd bet money you have one of these too. An idea you've been carrying around, untested, taking up room. So that's where I am on a Sunday: letting one idea go, going all-in on the Club. Hit reply and tell me — what's the untested idea taking up space in your head? Yours in rebellion, P.S. To the one person who joined Hot Message Summer: you're not alone in there. Thirteen Club members are running the sprint with you. And you're getting some surprises. P.P.S. And if you read this whole thing thinking, "okay, but I actually want those messaging sprints" — they live inside the Expert Up Club, and the next sprint kicks off July 16. I've opened up private tours. Book yours here
